How An eye lift Works

- Your Recovery
The skin around your eyes is some of the most fragile on your body, making it especially prone to early aging. Over time, collagen and elastin loss cause the eyelids to sag or develop excess skin, creating a tired or heavy appearance. Fat pads under the eyes can also shift, leading to puffiness or under-eye bags. Sun exposure, genetics, and repetitive facial expressions also accelerate this aging.
Eye lifts can address your upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on your aesthetic goals…
Removes excess skin and fat from your upper eyelids to correct droopiness and open up your eyes. It’s ideal for heavy or hooded lids.
PROS: Lifts heavy or sagging upper eyelids to open the eyes and improve vision in some cases. Enhances a tired or sad appearance, creating a brighter, more alert look. Hidden incisions in the natural eyelid crease result in nearly invisible scars. Quick recovery, with most patients resuming normal activities within 7-10 days. Ideal for patients with upper eyelid hooding or excess skin.
CONS: Does not address under-eye bags or lower eyelid concerns. May require complementary procedures (such as a brow lift) for optimal facial harmony. Temporary swelling may affect eyelid movement during early recovery.
Targets your under-eye bags and puffiness by removing or repositioning fat and tightening skin. Perfect for a smoother, more rested look.
PROS: Reduces puffiness, bags, or dark circles under the eyes for a rested appearance. Smooths fine lines and tightens lower eyelid skin for a youthful look. Incisions are hidden below the lash line or inside the eyelid. Can be combined with fat repositioning to fill hollows for a seamless result. Perfect for patients with prominent under-eye concerns.
CONS: Does not address upper eyelid drooping or hooding. Slightly longer recovery than upper lift due to delicate lower eyelid tissue. Risk of temporary dryness or irritation, managed with post-operative care.
Combines both upper and lower procedures for comprehensive rejuvenation to address both droopy lids and under-eye bags.
PROS: Comprehensive rejuvenation of both upper and lower eyelids for a balanced, youthful look. Addresses multiple concerns (hooding, bags, wrinkles) in one procedure to reduce overall downtime. Harmonizes the eye area with the rest of the face for natural results. Customizable to your specific needs, with tailored incision and fat management techniques. Ideal for patients with both upper and lower eyelid aging.
CONS: Longer procedure and recovery time (10-14 days) compared to upper or lower. Higher initial investment due to the procedure’s complexity. Temporary swelling or bruising may be more noticeable around the entire eye area. Requires meticulous planning to ensure symmetry and natural expression.
Part ONE: your Consultation
Your journey begins with a one-hour consultation where we focus on you—your concerns, goals, and eyes.
We’ll discuss whether you need an upper, lower, or combined eye lift by considering factors like your eyelid shape, skin laxity, and fat distribution.
Using advanced imaging, I’ll show you how your eyes could look post-surgery to help you visualize your brighter, more open appearance. We’ll also cover incision placement and recovery expectations to ensure you feel confident and informed.
By the end, you’ll have a tailored plan designed to enhance your natural beauty.
Part two: your Surgery
Performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, an eye lift takes 1–3 hours in our state-of-the-art facility.
Preparation: You’re comfortably positioned, and anesthesia is administered.
Upper Blepharoplasty: I make a small incision along the natural crease of your upper eyelid and then remove excess skin, fat, and muscle. The incision is closed with fine sutures for minimal scarring.
Lower Blepharoplasty: I create a discreet incision just below the lash line or inside the eyelid (transconjunctival approach) to remove and reposition fat to tighten skin. This ensures a smooth, natural contour.
Combined Procedure: Both techniques are performed in one session for a balanced, rejuvenated look, with thorough attention to symmetry.
Incisions are closed with fine sutures, designed to minimize scarring and blend into natural creases. Light dressings or ointment are applied to protect the incisions and reduce swelling.
You’ll rest in our recovery area before heading home the same day with detailed aftercare instructions.
Part three: your recovery
Heading home after surgery
You’ll return home the same day with instructions to apply cold compresses and keep your head elevated. Rest is crucial, and you’ll avoid reading or screen time to reduce eye strain.
Days 2-3
Mild swelling and bruising peak but are manageable with prescribed medication. You’ll use lubricating eye drops to prevent dryness and rest with your head elevated.
Days 4–7
Swelling subsides, and sutures are typically removed by day 5-7. You can resume light activities like walking, but avoid makeup or rubbing your eyes.
Weeks 1-3
Most patients return to work or social activities within 7-10 days (10-14 for combined lifts). Bruising fades, and your eyes begin to look refreshed, though minor swelling may persist.
Weeks 3-6
Residual swelling resolves to reveal your brighter, more youthful eyes. You can resume exercise and makeup application by following our skincare guidance.
Months 2-6
Your final results shine as scars fade and tissues settle. You’ll enjoy a vibrant, rested appearance and can resume all activities, including strenuous ones.

Most Natural EYE LIFT
One of the top concerns my patients have when considering an eye lift is how natural the final outcome will look. Here’s how I ensure that happens…
Tailored to Your Eyes & Face
Every eye lift is tailored to your facial structure, ensuring results complement your eyes’ shape and surrounding features. We assess your eyelid skin, fat distribution, and bone structure to determine the precise amount of tissue to adjust.
For example, a patient with deep-set eyes may need subtle fat repositioning, while another may benefit from more skin removal. This bespoke approach ensures your eyes look naturally refreshed. We use advanced imaging to preview your outcome, so you feel confident in our plan.
Hidden Incision Techniques
I place incisions in discreet areas, such as the upper eyelid crease or below the lower lash line, where they blend seamlessly into natural folds. For lower lifts, I often use a transconjunctival approach (inside the eyelid) to eliminate visible scars. I use fine sutures and provide scar-care protocols, like silicone gels, to ensure scars fade quickly. Patients love how these details maintain the flawless aesthetic of their results.
Conservative Tissue Adjustment
I remove or reposition only the necessary amount of skin, fat, or muscle to avoid an over-corrected or “surprised” look. By preserving your natural eyelid contours, I ensure your eyes retain their expressive quality. For lower lifts, I often redistribute fat to fill hollows rather than removing it to prevent a sunken appearance. This conservative approach ensures your results look as natural as possible. Patients appreciate how their eyes appear brighter without looking overdone.
Precision During Surgery
I use high-magnification tools and mapping to ensure symmetry and balance. By adjusting tissues with exact precision, we avoid over-tightening or unevenness, which is what makes outcomes look unnatural. We also monitor eyelid function to preserve blinking and closing. This precision ensures your eyes move naturally when you smile or blink. Patients often say friends notice they look “rested” without ever guessing surgery.
Post-Surgery Support for Optimal Healing
We provide a tailored recovery plan, including lubricating drops to maintain eye comfort and a full skincare routine. Our team schedules regular follow-ups to monitor healing and offers skincare recommendations to enhance your results. We also guide you on sun protection and makeup techniques to maintain your refreshed look. This comprehensive care ensures your eyes heal smoothly and look vibrant long-term. Patients feel supported every step of the way and love this long term approach to maximize their investment.

Common Patient Concerns & questions About an eye lift
Undergoing an eye lift is a big decision and it’s normal to have questions and concerns. Here are the most common ones I hear from my patients…
I use conservative techniques to adjust only the necessary skin, fat, or muscle to ensure your eyelids retain their natural contours and expression. During your consultation, we use advanced imaging to preview a balanced, refreshed outcome tailored to your anatomy. Our patients often share that friends notice they look brighter and more rested, without suspecting surgery. This customized approach delivers subtle, elegant results.
Safety is paramount, and blepharoplasty is a highly refined procedure when performed by experienced surgeons. I’m board-certified and my team has the most advanced high-magnification tools and precise techniques to protect your eyes and surrounding tissues. We also have thorough pre-operative screenings to confirm if you would be a good fit. Some patients even report improved peripheral vision after upper lid lifts due to reduced hooding. We follow strict safety protocols to ensure you feel confident. Our patients appreciate this meticulous care and peace of mind.
We understand the desire for a discreet recovery, and our process is designed to minimize visibility. Swelling and bruising are typically mild, resolving within 7-10 days, and can be concealed with sunglasses or light makeup after the first week. We provide a detailed aftercare kit, like cold compresses and head elevation, to speed healing, along with follow-up visits to monitor progress. Most patients feel confident enough to return to work or social settings within a week. Our patients are often surprised at how straightforward the process was.
Scarring is minimal through our advanced techniques. I place incisions in natural creases, like the upper eyelid fold or below the lower lash line, and often use a transconjunctival approach for lower lifts to avoid visible scars entirely. Our fine suturing and post-operative scar-care protocols, including silicone gels, ensure scars fade quickly and often become nearly invisible within months. Patients love how these details preserve the flawless aesthetic of their results.
Dry eyes can be a temporary side effect, but we take proactive steps to minimize discomfort. During your consultation, we assess your eye health and recommend lubricating drops and other recovery treatments to maintain comfort post-surgery. My surgical techniques preserve tear-producing structures, and we provide a detailed care plan to manage sensitivity during recovery. Most patients find any dryness resolves within a few weeks. Our comprehensive support ensures you recover as quickly and smoothly as possible.
